Mew, (ミウ Miu?) or Bis (ビス Bisu?, lit. Screw) in Japan, is a 16 year old Rudie living in Tokyo-to. She is a supporting and playable character in Jet Set Radio. Mew joins the GG's after the player proves their skills by copying her moves via the challenges she provides them.
Mew is a Technique character whose best specialty is her speed, along with her graffiti stat. However, despite these strengths, her health is average, and her spray can limit caps off at 20 cans.
Overview[]
Appearance[]
In Jet Set Radio, Mew wears a light blue, long sleeved sundress that reaches to above her knees. It's trimmed with pale blue fur at the collar, the end of the sleeves, and the hem. It has her name (ミウ) printed vertically on the front, in fuchsia katakana, and an emblem resembling a screw on the back, which is in reference to her name in the Japanese releases of the game. Underneath the dress, she wears striped blue stockings, as well as dark blue skates with fuchsia markings and pale blue wheels. Mew's lipstick is also blue. Her hair is a more greenish blue, and is straight, in an angular cut, with a pair of square gray headphones on top. An antenna sticks up out of the left ear of the headphones.
She also has a blue katakana marking representing the first part of her Japanese name, Bis (ビ), under her left eye. This feature is absent from her official art.
Personality[]
Mew is a joyful, independent, witty, and serious gangster who has an interest in money, wealth, and extravagance. She's a devil's advocate, being willing to entertain opinions she doesn't necessarily agree with. Her trademark graffiti implies she has an interest in music.
Role in Jet Set Radio[]
Most versions[]
Mew first appears at the garage after the Benten Boogie mission is completed, challenging the GG's to a test of skill in Benten-cho. After her three challenges are completed, she decides to join the gang and becomes playable. When not being played as, she sits on the boomboxes at the back of the garage near Beat and Pots. Aside from that, her role in the story is minimal.
Japanese release[]
In the original Japanese release of the game, Bis challenges the GG's after completing the Kogane Circus mission. She gives them a set of challenges to complete in Kogane-cho. After completing them, she joins the gang. Just like every release afterwards, her role is minimal.

Official profiles[]
Jet Set Radio Perfect Guide[]
- JP: 背中のネジが「ステイルフィッシュ」などのアグレシップなエアーを象徴している。小回りの利くキャラ。[2]
- EN: The screw-shaped emblem on her back represents aggressive aerial tricks like the "Stalefish." She's good at tight turns.[3]
Jet Grind Radio: Sybex's Official Strategies & Secrets[]
- Mew is similar to Gum-she's quick and skilled with painting graffiti. Her stamina's lower, however, making the female skater an easier target for enemies in some levels. Despite this shortcoming, Mew's quickness makes her a shoe-in for for the Jet Crush levels later in the game. Use her to score quick points in both the graffiti and trick departments.[4]
Jet Grind Radio IGN Guide[]
- Mew is very fast and like Gum is good at tagging. That makes her good at hitting tags spots and getting away from the cops. Mew will score high in the trick and graffiti category but she is not a powerful character. If you play as Mew make sure you use her to pull off lots of airborne tricks. Recruit Mew after finishing the Benten Boogie.[5]
Jet Set Radio GBA manual[]
- This little cutie is not only fast, but she can jump anything.[6]

Trivia[]
- In the original Japanese Dreamcast release of Jet Set Radio, Mew's showdown was set in Kogane-cho, instead of around Benten-cho. In the Japanese release, Cube's showdown was set in Benten-cho but her profile was changed (originally Japanese in the first release). Instead of Cube, Mew appears in Benten-cho in every other version of Jet Set Radio.
- The song, "Mischievous Boy", by Castle Logical and Yoshika Sekine, is the theme of Mew.[7]
- Mew is one of Hideki Naganuma's favorite characters from Jet Set Radio.[8]
- On her sticker in Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed, Mew has a marking of three teal lines under her left eye. This is not shown in her official art, however.
- Mew shares her original Japanese name with the band Bis, who was featured in Jet Set Radio Future with their song "Statement of Intent". Due to this shared connection, Hideki Naganuma would make a tweet questioning if Ryuta Ueda was aware of the band during the development of Jet Set Radio.[9]
