Kyoto (京都 Kyōto?) is one of the three playable stages from Ollie King. The course is noted for its jump ramps and small platforms throughout. The expert mode layout is considered the most challenging course in Ollie King. It is also the home track to Team JPN.

Overview[]

Described in the flyers for the game as a peaceful and beautiful city, the Kyoto course is set at sunset and takes place around Fushimi Castle and Fushimi Inari-taisha. Like all courses in Ollie King, the track has a downhill layout. In the Kids/Normal Mode layout, it is described that much of the course runs through bamboo forests with shrines and temples serving as the background. The obstacles in it mainly include jump ramps with pointy edges and small platforms. Near the end of it, huts appear that players can ride on. Shortcuts are also present. For the Expert Mode layout, the start of the track takes atop a Japanese castle, and is described as the most dangerous one due to sheer cliffs and castles serving as the obstacles for this layout.

Development[]

According to Masayoshi Kikuchi, Kyoto was chosen over Tokyo, due to the latter already serving as the "motif" for the Jet Set Radio games, and wanting to appeal to foreigners.[1] The music track that plays in Kyoto is "Too Fast", by Hideki Naganuma. According to the Ollie King soundtrack commentary, Naganuma wanted to add a melody in the vein of a Japanese band playing due to the song being used for Kyoto, but could not as it was difficult to do so.

Ollie King Owner's Manual[]

Kids/Normal Mode[]

  • Much of the course runs through bamboo forests and windy mountain paths, with shrines and temples in the background. Obstacles on this course include jump ramps with pointy edges, and extremely small jumping platforms. The line chosen by the Player plays a big part in the result of this highly creative racecourse. Players can also explore various shortcuts, or try to ride on the roof of the huts that appear toward the end of the course.[3]

Expert[]

  • The starting point for this course is atop a breathtaking Japanese castle. Experience the thrill of leaping off a 60-degree roof, knowing that if you miss the next one you'll fall head first into the valley below! With the terrifyingly steep castle roofs and the difficulty of the small mountain roads, this is the most challenging course in "Ollie King".[3]
