Jet Crush (ジェットクラッシュ Jetto Kurasshu?) is a side mission in the Jet Set Radio series. The mode goes by various names such as Jet Clash or Jet Crash in guides and manuals for Jet Set Radio. In Jet Set Radio Future, it is referred to as Jet Dash (ジェットダッシュ Jetto Dasshu?) during Test Runs, and City Rush (シティラッシュ Shiti Rasshu?) in the game's story, multiplayer mode, and manual. In the multiplayer mode of Jet Set Radio GBA, the mode is called Killer Crush.

The objective to the mode is to race around a certain location in a set amount of time for a "Jet" rank. If the player knows what they are doing, they can take "shortcuts" to shave off time to reach the goal faster than intended.

Story[]

Jet Set Radio[]

Benten cho

Gum racing against Corn in Benten-cho's Jet Crush challenge.

During the story of Jet Set Radio, some characters will challenge the GG's to a race. Those being Yo-Yo, Piranha (first Japanese release only), and Slate. However, the player is not forced to do these races, with the exception of the race against Beat in chapter 2 with every other release of the game, and can complete them later if they choose too.

During the post game of Jet Set Radio, all five locations will have an option to do a Jet Crush race. Each area has a set rival.

Jet Set Radio Future[]

In Jet Set Radio Future, the only time Jet Dash plays a part in the story is during Dogenzaka Hill to unlock Beat and the race against Poison Jam in Chuo Street, as all other instances of City Rush in the story are optional. Later on after the Death Ball tournament, the GG's can choose to go back to the Tokyo Rokkaku Expo Stadium and challenge Jazz to a race to have her eventually join the gang. The GG's also come across Soda in Highway Zero who agrees to a race as he claims that he is "bored". The GG's can also recruit Cube after she challenges them to a race throughout the Bottom Point of the Sewage Facility.

In chapter 7 or the post game of Jet Set Radio Future, the Doom Riders challenge the GG's to a rematch in Dogenzaka Hill. Also during the post game, the player has the option to do Jet Dash in order to unlock extra characters for the game.

Multiplayer[]

In Jet Set Radio Future, City Rush is one of the five missions that people can compete in. The first one to do 3 laps and come first on the last lap is the winner.

In the Game Boy Advance version of Jet Set Radio, Killer Crush is one of the four multiplayer options available. Only two people can compete in this mode.

Official descriptions[]

Manuals[]

  • JSR (JP)/De La JSR: 体質とレースし、どちらが早くゴール地熱にグラフィティを描くかを競う。[1][2]
  • JGR: Reach the goal and spray before the other skater.[3]

Jet Grind Radio: Sybex's Official Strategies & Secrets[]

  • Jet Crush works a lot like the Rival Challenges races in that you'll race against one of your teammates to reach a tag and spray paint it first within a certain amount of time.[4]
  • One of the new modes that becomes accessible toward the end of the game is Jet Crush. If you enter a Jet Crush stage, you'll be up against some stiff racing competition from fellow members of your gang, the GG's. Similar to the race stages in some of the Rival Challenges, the main difference here is that you'll have to skate a whole lot faster than before.[5]

Jet Grind Radio IGN Guide[]

  • This mode is a fast racing game where you will have to compete against the other GG's in a race through Tokyo-Cho. The goal here is to beat your opponent to the finishing line and hit the small tag there before he or she does.[6]

Jet Set Radio Future manual[]

  • Make three laps around the selected course. First to reach the goal wins the battle.[7]

Jet Set Radio Future Perfect Guidebook[]

Race Battles[]

  • JP: レースでは、ダッシュやブー ストダッシュよりもグラインド を使って高速を確持したほうが だんぜん送い。グラインドポイ ントをつかむためにも、つねに先行したほうがいいだろう。[8]
  • EN: When racing, rather than dashing or Boost Dashing, hands down the fastest way to move is by using grinds to maintain a high speed. To be sure that you can make all the needed grinds, it might be worth running through the race course during normal gameplay first.[note 1][9]

Jet Dash/City Rush[]

  • EN: In this mode, the first player to complete three laps around the chosen map becomes the victor! This mode is the only one that can be played in free-for-all mode, not with teams. Characters in the QUICK class can run out of stamina and lose, so it's better to go with Cube or Soda of the SPEED class.[note 1][11]

Jet Set Radio Future Prima Games Strategy Guide[]

  • City Rush is nothing more than a race with a fancy name. The first person to cross the finish line after three laps win the whole shebang.[12]

Jet Set Radio (GBA)[]

  • Race the enemy gang! Tag the graffiti at the end of the race to win![13]
