Goji Rokkaku (六角ゴウジ Rokkaku Goji?) is the final boss in Jet Set Radio. He is the chairman of the Rokkaku Group, the leader of the Golden Rhinos, and the main driving force behind the 21st Century Project. He is also on the hunt for the "Devil's Contract", so he can complete his plan on renovating Tokyo-to and eventually the world.

Goji is another Graffiti character and is somewhat similar to the Noise Tanks when it comes to his stats. The biggest difference between the two of course being his spray can limit of 30 cans, but he still has good graffiti and a pretty high stamina bar. His biggest drawback is his lack of speed, or technique, and the truth to his stamina, as unlike most characters, Goji takes significantly more damage than usual and as a result is considered to be a high risk-high reward character for that alone.

Overview[]

Appearance[]

Goji appears to be a middle-aged, bald man, and wears a black suit and sunglasses with a white scarf and black bowtie. He also sports rings on his middle and ring fingers on both hands. According to his artwork, Goji wears gray shoes. When playing as him he wears gray skates with spikes on the front, resembling a rhino's horn, that sport golden wheels. The skates themselves resemble a rhino.

Personality[]

Goji's behavior and assassins indicate that Goji is a very dangerous individual who is willing to do anything to get what he wants. Goji is also money and power hungry. He founded the 21st Century Project with the metropolitan government and became desperate to find an old indie record known as the "Devil's Contract", a vinyl record that can supposedly summon a demon. It got to the point where he sent out Golden Rhinos members to Grind City just to find the record for him.

Role in Jet Set Radio[]

Years prior to the events of Jet Set Radio, the Rokkaku Group, led by Goji, collaborated with the metropolitan government to co-found the "21st Century Project" as the future of Tokyo-to causing Rudies to be arrested.

As told in chapter 2, he kidnapped Combo and Cube's friend and former fellow gang member Coin; however, they never see him again and the epilogue indicates that Goji may have killed him. By the end of the game, Goji does indeed collect all three pieces of the record and tries to summon a demon. Fortunately, the GG's defeat him and destroy his operation.

It is suggested that Goji may have been killed or mortally wounded after the Rokkaku Building exploded from the battle. Combo goes on to state that the Devil's Contract never had any powers, and that Goji was just trying to satisfy "the demons of his own heart". It is also noted after Goji's defeat, his son took over Rokkaku operations.

Unlocking[]

Goji is unlocked as a playable character by getting Jet ranks on all levels set in Grind City. After unlocking him, Goji will be selectable via Rokkaku oil drum that is placed between Yo-Yo and Corn in the garage.

Trivia[]

  • The name "Rokkaku" in Japanese means "hexagon", hence the Rokkaku Group's logo.
  • Goji's name is spelled as "Goji" throughout all of Jet Set Radio, with one exception. In Bantam Street, players can find a sign that reads "Gouji Laboratory" instead of "Goji Laboratory". This is the only time where Goji's name is spelled like that, however it is the spelling for his name in Jet Set Radio Future.
  • Goji, along with Pots, was not a playable character in the original Japanese release of Jet Set Radio.
  • Goji's artwork would be revealed in a Famistu DC magazine issue, which also showcased Pots' artwork from another issue of the Japanese Dreamcast Magazine.[5]
  • As a playable character, Goji's health bar is maxed out, but as a trade-off, he takes three times normal damage.
  • Goji does not do any H-Block (frontside-based) grinds at all. His grinds are the Acid Soul, Soul, and X.
  • Considering that "Grace & Glory" plays in the fight in against Goji, the song can be considered his theme song.
  • Players who own Jet Set Radio on their Xbox 360 can equip their Xbox Avatar with a hoodie that Goji wore in 1982 during a youth seminar.
    • The hoodie strangely features a Graffiti Soul on it. Since it is nothing more but a cosmetic piece, its likely that it was made for fun with no legitimate implications.[7]
  • Goji's model would be reused in Jet Set Radio Future, serving as the statue that appears in Rokkaku-dai Heights, representing Gouji Rokkaku's ancestor. This is nothing more but a cameo callback as both Jet Set Radio and Jet Set Radio Future are confirmed to take place in separate universes.[8]
  • Goji's regular model has a texture that seemingly shows Goji getting mad in a similar sense to that of Captain Onishima with his face turning red. Just like Onishima's texture, it goes unused in the game.
  • Similar to Garam, Yo-Yo and DJ Professor K, Goji does not have any eye textures behind his sunglasses.
  • In the files of Jet Set Radio, Goji has multiple unused files. A handful amount of his unused files are files that were meant for the Final Groove boss fight, indicating that his boss fight would have been a direct physical encounter instead of tagging the towers of the Rokkaku Headquarters.
  • Similar to that of Pots, Goji is not playable in the GBA version of Jet Set Radio, however, the Rokkaku oil drum that "appears" as Goji in the garage in the console versions, still shows up in the GBA rendition of the garage.
