JSRF Corn Ref

Personality[]

DJ Professor K describes him as a "self-styled genius". Corn acts as the leader of the gang. Similarly, in the Jet Set Radio Future Perfect Guidebook, Corn is described the same way: "Corn is a self-proclaimed genius, and the leader of the GG's. With his almighty abilities, he seems to be a force to be reckoned with, right from the opening, to whatever end game may occur."

In the English JSRF manual, he's described as having a "spirited mind". In the Japanese JSRF manual, he's said to be determined and always in high spirits. The Japanese version of the official JSRF website states he's always on the lookout for new ideas.

Role in Jet Set Radio Future[]

Corn is already in the garage at the game's beginning, alongside Gum and Roboy.

Upon Yoyo's arrival, Corn mistakes him for the pizza guy at first, but then instructs him to talk to Gum to learn the game's basic controls before he can actually join the GG's.

After that, he alerts Yoyo of DJ Professor K, an underground radio DJ who then gives exposition on the game's story. Despite being the leader of the GG's, Corn's role in the story is minimal after that. However, speaking to him at the garage during gameplay, the player will learn slight tidbits and details about in-game locations specific to each chapter; often providing the most exposition than other playable characters.

Dialogue and noted interactions[]

Dialogue
Chapter # Quote
Chapter 1 Debut
  • This is the GG's Garage. Hey, where's our pizza? Huh? You're not the pizza guy? Oh, you're here to join the GG's, eh? Heh... Tell you what. Find Gum. She's the one you wanna talk to. Just get close to her and pull the Right Trigger. Got it?
  • Why don't you talk to her now? [If the player immediately talks to him afterwards]
  • Yo noob, you've heard about Jet Set Radio, right? It's an underground pirate radio station headed up by the almighty DJ Professor K. Man, that fool plays some sick tunes. And if you listen long enough, he'll even clue you in on the lowdown on the streets, too. You should tune in if you wanna survive out there. Wait... Listen up. The show's about to begin...

After DJ Professor K's broadcast.

  • Now, just 'cause you're new don't mean that you can act like a big baby. The police are tightening up around here, especially since the Rokkaku group took over the police force. I know we look crazy 'n all, but even we know how to pick our fights. So don't mess things up for the rest of us, got it?

After the first police shakedown.

  • Roboy's training changes as your skill level changes, so be on the lookout.
Chapter 2 After tagging Shibuya Terminal.

When Rapid 99 appears.

  • Roboy told you, right? If you find a Mystery Tape, you gotta check the GG-notebook. It'll tell you where to find all the Graffiti Souls in the area.
Chapter 3 After Rapid 99 reveals Poison Jam's hideout.
  • I had a feeling Poison Jam would have their hideout in the sewers beneath Rokkaku-dai Heights. This is it... looks like the time to throw down has finally come.
Chapter 4 During Yoyo's disappearance.
  • Where the hell is Yoyo? Maybe he freaked out and skipped town? I'm sure he's alright. But we gotta take care of those Immortals. They've been walkin' around like they own the place. We gotta go and cover up all their graffiti.

When the Immortals appear.

  • I'll send those Immortals back to the grave as many times as I need to!
Chapter 6 During the Noise Tanks invasion.
  • We'll stop those Noise Tanks!

After defeating all the Noise Tanks

  • Poison Jam knows something about Yoyo. I know they do.
Chapter 7 Clutch appears.
  • Man, there's some strange fool in our Garage...

After Clutch's theft.

  • Damn! Punk, I'll get you for that!

Called to the Fortified Residential Zone

  • The fortified residential zone... that's deep in the ghetto. And it could be the fake one again...
  • What a fool. But the fortified residential zone... that's deep in the ghetto. And it could be the fake one again... [When speaking to Clutch]
Chapter 8 During the Golden Rhinos attack.
  • Here they come. The crazies from the Golden Rhinos. Concentrate, and watch your back. These guys ain't no joke.
  • Long time no see, bro. [When speaking to Yoyo]

Before confronting Gouji

  • We gotta protect the streets. That's not a choice. We can't let these fools just waltz in and take over.
Chapter 9/Post game All regions.
  • The real enemy is your own fear. Remember that.

Japan only

  • And now, even the GG's have recruited some odd fish... [To the Love Shockers, Rapid 99, the Immortals, Noise Tanks, or Doom Riders]
  • Didn't think this would happen when I left you for awhile... [To Pots]
  • Roboy No. 2. [To "Roboy No. 2"]

Note: No other GG dialogue appears in chapter 5 besides Jazz's.

Noted interactions
  • Gum - Implied to be good friends, being originally the only two members of the GG's (not counting Roboy).
  • Roboy - Corn is Roboy's 'creator', having repaired him from a scrap heap. The two show no real interactions in game however, but it is suggested Roboy's arrogant attitude was inherited from Corn according to the original JSRF website. In the Japanese exclusive dialogue, if the player uses Roboy and talks to Corn, he simply refers to him as "Roboy No. 2", at least implying that there were multiple Noise Tank prototypes built.
  • Yoyo - During Yoyo's kidnapping, Corn understandably shows concern for his whereabouts, but assumes he is alright.
  • Beat - If he is the one to talk to Beat on Dogenzaka Hill, he will have a special dialog with Corn, saying: "So you're the leader of the GG's? Heh..." before challenging him to a race, with the condition that he and the others will answer to him if he wins. If Corn refuses, Beat will complain by saying: "Huuuh? You're so booooring...". When challenged by Yoyo or Gum, the condition is simply for Beat to have Dogenzaka Hill as his turf. This rivalry is also used as a basis in a comic.
  • Clutch - Right after Clutch steals the GG's Graffiti Souls, Corn quickly calls him a "punk" and says he will get back at Clutch. In return, after joining the gang, Corn calls him a fool, while Clutch laughs at the idea of Corn being the leader of the GG's, not taking him seriously as a result.
  • Pots - In the Japanese exclusive dialogue, Corn is shocked to see Pots become bipedal and gaining the ability to skate. Noting that he did not think something like this would happen to the dog if he left him for a bit. This line possibly implies Pots being founded and taken in by Corn as well.
  • Rival Gangs - In the Japanese exclusive dialogue, Corn notes that the GG's have recruited some "odd fish" if any rival gang member, minus Poison Jam, talks to him. However in the story, he calls Poison Jam "freaks", claims to send the Immortals back to their graves, and states that his gang will stop the Noise Tanks. At least showing little respect towards half of the rival gangs present.

Trivia[]

  • If playing on the Xbox 360 instead of the original Xbox, there are certain characters that will make the game slow down significantly at points, and Corn is one of them. Due to a potential frame rate difference, Corn's jacket will flow slowly instead of flapping - likely caused from JSRF being processed on the 360 instead of it's designated console.
  • Corn's rivalry with Beat carries on into the promotional comic, Beat vs. Corn, where they first encounter each other and race to settle their rivalry.
  • Corn also appears the main character of a JSRF comic in the Official Xbox Magazine #2, introducing himself and his gang and taking the reader through his day.
  • He shares the same stats as Beat.
  • Corn's air tricks between forward and backwards combos per X and Y buttons have no variation. This is the same case with the Immortals.
  • Corn is one of the few characters to have any piece of graffiti being related to them. The others being Poison Jam, the Immortals, and Zero Beat. However, the tag relating to Corn must be unlocked by completing one of the Street Challenges for the Fortified Residential Zone.
  • Corn, along with Gum, Combo, and Soda, are the only members of the GG's from the original game to not appear in their Future attires in a crossover game.
  • When Corn is talked to, his idle animation changes to the one he did in the original Jet Set Radio.
    • Yoyo also performs his dance if he is talked to as well.
