Dashing, (ダッシュ Dasshu?) also referred to as boosting in the Game Boy Advance version of Jet Set Radio, is a maneuver that appears in the Jet Set Radio series. Like any other dashing mechanic, it increases the player's speed.

Game appearances[]

Jet Set Radio[]

In Jet Set Radio, the player is first taught how to dash by Gum, who instructs them that they can speed up by holding down the right trigger and pressing the jump button. In the game's separate tutorial mode, dashing is taught as the third lesson. After completing Corn's tutorials, he will tell the player that bullets cannot hit the player while dashing. In the Game Boy Advance version of the game, he mentions that both grinding and boosting will make the player invincible against bullets.

Dashing is important when it comes to showdowns that are races such as Yo-Yo's and the Jet Crush trial.

Jet Set Radio Future[]

In Jet Set Radio Future, the dashing ability was expanded on. This time the player can simply dash by flicking the left stick, as they will start out with a burst of speed before slowing down. However, there is a faster dash maneuver called the Boost Dash, which increases the player's speed for a slightly longer time period. In the opening tutorials for the game, Gum teaches the player how to Boost Dash, which is achieved by pressing the B button. This is also taught by Roboy in his first "Basics" lesson.

The Boost Dash is also an offensive maneuver that is used against the Rokkaku Police and the Golden Rhinos. If the player holds down the left trigger while in a battle such as Tagger's Tag, they can lock onto their opponents and perform a Boost Dash to stun their rivals and slow them down a bit. A Boost Dash can only be used if the player has 10 or more spray cans. Just like in the Jet Crush trials for Jet Set Radio, the Boost Dash is also important to use in the Jet Dash Test Runs, and City Rush races.
