General |
Clutch (クラッチ Kuratchi?) is a playable character in Jet Set Radio Future. Clutch shows up near the end of the game's story, stealing the GG's Graffiti Souls and taking off with them. Once he is caught, he joins the gang and tells them where Yoyo is held captive at. Clutch is one of the few characters mandatory to recruit in order to finish the game, along with Beat, Combo, and Garam.
Clutch is the other Spray type character in the game. This means his stats are identical to Jazz. He can hold up to 35 spray cans and sports good cornering as well. His other stats simply range from average to above average, with no real drawbacks, besides not being able to complete tags as fast even with the can limit increase.
Overview[]
Appearance[]
Clutch is distinguishable by his flame-red themed appearance. He wears a flame-red shirt which sports his name in katakana on the front and a orange symbol on the back, gray pants with flame designs, a chain near his left pocket, red and yellow bands around his wrists, and gray-blue blades with flame designs on them. He also has ear-piercings on his left ear.
Personality[]
Other characters describe him as a jerk due to him robbing them and is considered an irresponsible dude according to his profile from the Jet Set Radio Future Perfect Guidebook. His post game dialogue is: "Haaaahaha! Tokyo ain't half bad!", implying he is either from another town or outside of Japan. Most of Clutch's dialogue includes him laughing, mostly showing him being amused by the happenings in the city. Due to Clutch getting around the city rather quickly during the chase after him, he is also called elusive by DJ Professor K.
Role in Jet Set Radio Future[]
Clutch makes his entry into the story while the GG's are looking for Yoyo. A sketchy guy, Clutch comes to the garage and promises that he will give the GG's Yoyo's location after they give him a number of graffiti souls. He then asks to have a look at the Graffiti Souls (once at least 40 souls have been collected). Unfortunately, Clutch runs off after taking the Graffiti Souls.
Now forced to chase him, DJ Professor K will then tell the player where he is. Depending on how long the player takes, he will keep moving to one of three areas: Kibogaoka Hill, the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park, and then Chuo Street. After the player catches him, he says that Yoyo is being held in the Fortified Residential Zone, and afterwards, joins the GG's.
Acquiring Clutch[]
After the player has obtained at least 40 Graffiti Souls, Clutch will appear in the garage, saying he knows where Yoyo is being kept. He asks for a look at the Graffiti Souls and proceeds to take off with them. The player will then have no choice but to track him down in order to recover the stolen Graffiti Souls, have Clutch join the GG's, and have him provide information on Yoyo's whereabouts. The places Clutch rotates between are:
- Kibogaoka Hill: Clutch appears by the first Graffiti Stop, near the entrance to the level, and will stay there for approximately 90 seconds.
- The Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park: Clutch moves here from Kibogaoka Hill, and will stand to the right of the first gate. He will stay here for approximately 2 minutes.
- Chuo Street: Clutch will stand near the headless dinosaur for about 3 minutes. Despite staying at Chuo Street the longest, many players will catch up to Clutch at the Skyscraper District.
Note: Clutch rotates between these three areas in the order listed above. If the player is waiting for Clutch to show up in an area, he does not skate into where he is to be found. Rather, he pops in to speak to, and humorously will still say you 'caught' him.
Clutch Glitch[]
If the player is inactive from finding and following Clutch from location to location, this glitch might appear. A while after Clutch takes away the 40 Graffiti Souls; DJ Professor K will stop telling mentioning where Clutch is headed. Clutch then disappears from the game and the player needs to start over. To stop this from happening, save the game right after Clutch takes away the Graffiti Souls. Clutch does not have to skate from location to location through the map; he just appears, so the player must be fast in catching him. He stays in different places for different time intervals which are listed above so his appearance is perfectly predictable. Ignoring what DJ Professor K says will not help despite what people say. Professor K reveals when Clutch enters an area, so he is somewhat helpful.
Here is the catch; if the player goes to the area that the DJ tells them where Clutch is in, by the time they get there Clutch will be gone. The area DJ Professor K mentions, the player must go to the area that Clutch is going to next in the pattern: Kibogaoka Hill, the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park, and then Chuo Street. If the player is in any of these places, they should wait until he appears in the exact place in the areas mentioned in "Acquiring Clutch".

Trivia[]
- In the ending cutscene, Clutch can be found in an incomplete state where he's in a A-pose and is missing his hair.
Clutch (circled) seen in the ending cutscene.
- Another bug relating to Clutch is that his right ear constantly flickers to be purple no matter what he is doing.
- Clutch, along with Roboy, are the only characters in the garage that do not have an alternate idle animation when being talked to.
- In the post game, Clutch comments on the Immortals, Zero Beat and Poison Jam's Graffiti Souls. These characters are notable in being the only ones with exclusive graffiti tied to unlocking them. Clutch is also the only character to have his post game dialogue from Japan to be translated for the international releases of Jet Set Radio Future.
- Clutch, along with Rhyth, the Noise Tanks, and the Golden Rhinos, are the only characters of Jet Set Radio Future to have missions in the game directly refer to them.
- Soda and Jazz do as well, but their missions were combined into the overarching Noise Tanks mission to streamline things.
- Cube and the Immortals are the only two characters to have missions that use a nickname to describe them instead of using their names directly.
