The 99th Street District (99番街方面 99-Ban Machi Hōmen?, lit. Street #99 District) is a district of Tokyo that appears in Jet Set Radio Future. The district holds home to three gangs: Rapid 99, the Immortals, and the Noise Tanks. Just like the Shibuya District, it is also an entertainment zone thanks to areas like 99th Street and Sky Dinosaurian Square. A lot important story beats occur in this district, most notably the mysterious disappearance of Yoyo and the kidnapping of DJ Professor K.

Jet Set Radio Future Perfect Guidebook[]

  • JP: トーキョーの夜の繁華街、99番街。猥雑な活気に満ちたマチだ。一方、すぐ隣りには幾干のオフィスを内包した際天楼が建ち並んでいる。[1]
  • EN: Tokyo's nightlife district, 99th Street. It is a town full of obscene vibrancy. On the other hand, a skyscraper containing a number of offices stands right next to it.[note 1]

Overview[]

Just like Benten-cho from Jet Set Radio, the 99th Street District is the nighttime district of Tokyo in Jet Set Radio Future. Similar to the Shibuya District it is home to many entertainment zones and is the primary focus, mainly with theme parks such as the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park and Sky Dinosaurian Square being some of the main attractions. Areas like 99th Street and Highway Zero are where citizens do most of their shopping at, and the Tokyo Rokkaku Expo Stadium hosts sports tournaments as another form of activity. There is one area that is actively closed off during the course of the game, and that is the Site of Tokyo Line, only being accessible for one boss fight and cannot be revisited anytime afterwards.

The district holds home to a lot Rudie gangs; Rapid 99 of 99th Street, the Immortals of the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park, and the Noise Tanks, who made their debut in the district and had some control over a few locations.

Story[]

Just like the Rokkaku-dai District, the 99th Street District debuts in chapter 2 of Jet Set Radio Future via 99th Street, being one of the three new locations the player can go to at the start of the chapter. While at the 99th Street District, the GG's get wind of Poison Jam's secret hideout from Rapid 99 while dealing with the Rokkaku Police, confront the Immortals and Noise Tanks over Yoyo's disappearance, which leads into a confrontation between the Noise Tanks and NT-3000. The GG's also have to rescue DJ Professor from the Golden Rhinos as well. The 99th Street District is eventually returned to back to normal after the defeat of Gouji Rokkaku and his Rokkaku Expo.

Characters[]

These are the characters that are recruited at and/or can be obtained from the 99th Street District via Test Runs.

  • Jazz - Recruited at the Tokyo Rokkaku Expo Stadium after losing a race against the GG's.
  • Soda - Recruited at Highway Zero after losing a race against the GG's.
  • Clutch - Can be potentially recruited at the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park during the chase after him.
  • Rapid 99 - Becomes playable after completing the Test Runs for 99th Street.
  • Immortals - Becomes playable after completing the Test Runs for the Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park.
  • Noise Tanks - Becomes playable after completing the Test Runs for Highway Zero.
  • NT-3000 - Becomes playable after completing the Test Runs for Sky Dinosaurian Square.

Locations[]

These are the locations of the 99th Street District.

  • 99th Street - The main attraction of the district. Home turf of Rapid 99, and is considered to be Tokyo's hottest nightlife scene. The area is also connected to the GG's garage.
  • The Skyscraper District and Pharaoh Park - The holy sanctuary of the Immortals, built by an wealthy Egyptian businessman that lives in Tokyo. It is the central area of the 99th Street District as it has connections to most locations in the district.
  • Highway Zero - A fairly busy highway with a road dedicated to shopping vendors. If one explores the area well enough, they can tell that the highway is currently in an incomplete state, just like with many other locations of Tokyo. It appears in the multiplayer mode of the game.
  • Sky Dinosaurian Square - A dinosaur theme park high up in the sky. This is where the GG's confront the Noise Tanks and Yoyo, before Cube comes in and exposes Yoyo as NT-3000.
  • Tsuzura Park - The only 99th Street District exclusive multiplayer location. It is an arena that is most likely located near 99th Street itself.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the Shibuya District and Rokkaku-dai District, the 99th Street District only gains one additional area in the multiplayer mode of the game, which is Tsuzura Park. The other two districts get two additional levels in the multiplayer mode.
  • Even though the district does not retain the Benten name from the previous title, the locale still incorporates the name via the Benten Tower in 99th Street itself.
